A Certified Playground Safety Inspection is an inspection performed by someone with an active Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification through one of the two certifying organizations in the US, the leading program being through the National Recreation and Park Association. These individuals must pass a recertification exam every three years to prove their knowledge and understanding of the most current playground safety standards recognized by the industry. During our thorough inspections, we are carefully checking for any loose, broken or missing parts, defined playground safety hazards and common maintenance needs. Our inspections are intended to be used on a low-frequency basis (many clients have us inspect annually), along with manufacturer recommendations, to help maintain a safer play environment for children.
While it would be wonderful if every playground owner had the resources to have a CPSI on staff, this is just not realistic for most organizations. While some states have passed public playground legislation, there are no federal playground safety laws for the entire US. The CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook is considered a federal guideline and the ASTM standards related to public playgrounds are consumer safety performance specifications, which establish nationally recognized safety standards to address injuries identified by the CPSC. In all states, including those without state playground safety legislation, these resources have become the “Standard of Care” in court proceedings involving playground injuries.
In Florida, the CPSC Public Playground Safety Handbook is referenced in Florida Building Code for playgrounds at both public educational facilities and private childcare facilities. Playground safety requirements are also incorporated into the Florida Department of Children and Families Child Care Facility Handbook, as well as the Florida Department of Education’s State Requirements for Educational Facilities (SREF).

While every playground is different, a typical inspection for one average sized playground takes about one hour onsite. No one needs to be present, although you are welcome to come observe and ask questions. Within one week of the inspection you will be provided with a detailed inspection report. The report includes pictures and a clear explanation of any concerns, with references to any CPSC and/or ASTM safety standards out of compliance. We will also be available afterwards to talk through the reports, address any questions and help guide you through next steps. All inspection documents and findings are kept completely confidential.
No, we do not perform playground repairs. All of our safety inspections are completely free of bias or conflict of interest because we do not conduct repairs on issues found or represent any specific manufacturer. We will provide suggestions and maintenance tips where applicable, but when making major modifications or replacing parts, we always recommend working with the equipment manufacturer to help maintain any potential warranty and liability protection.

Our inspection prices are based on driving distance from the Orlando area and playground size, which we can usually determine by checking Google Maps in order to send you a service proposal over email. In the rare case that Google Maps does not allow a view of the playground, we may need to contact you for a simple photo of the play area in order to gauge size and prepare your proposal.
